EasyJetʼs first flight arriving from Lyon landed at Budapestʼs Liszt Ferenc International Airport today, according to a press release issued by operator Budapest Airport. As of today, the low-fare airline will operate three flights a week on the route.

EasyJet said the launch of the new route is in response to “long-standing market demand” since the heart of France was missing from the Budapest roster of flight destinations, while Paris has had a firm place at number two behind London. 

Flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, which the airline considers convenient for business travelers, and tourists on short weekend city breaks both in Lyon and in Budapest. Scheduled flights arrive late afternoon and leave early evening after a 30 minute turnaround in Budapest.

“We are really happy to launch the round trip route this year, which is exclusive to easyJet. … Three times a week French and Hungarian leisure travelers and business passengers will be able to connect affordably between these two major European cities. This is the 6th route to Budapest from across the easyJet network and the second from France,” Reginald Otten, easyJet commercial manager for France said.

“We are delighted to welcome an easyJet service between Budapest and Lyon. I am sure that this new, year-round flight will be a great success amongst business and leisure passengers alike in both countries,” remarked Kam Jandu, CCO of Budapest Airport. “We have been working on this flight with easyJet for some time and they have responded to a very significant market demand, both among Hungarian and French travelers,” he added.
